2018 Ridge Vineyards, Lytton Estate Petite Sirah, Sonoma County
Antonio Galloni, vinous.com 96/100. The 2018 Lytton Estate Petite Sirah is totally stunning. Bright, focused and powerful, the 2018 presents a breath-taking interplay of rich Petite fruit allied to a classic, old-school sense of structure. Dark blue/purplish fruit, leather, liquorice, lavender, menthol and gravel are some of the many notes that infuse the 2018 with all those layers of flavour. The 2018 is a real stunner. 97% Petite Sirah, 3% Zinfandel.
2019 Ridge Vineyards, Estate Chardonnay, Santa Cruz Mountains
JebDunnuck.com: 95/100. Coming from the Santa Cruz Mountains, the 2019 Chardonnay Estate offers a beautiful sense of reduction and minerality in its stone fruits, toasted brioche, and crushed stone-like aromas and flavours. A kiss of green almonds and salinity emerges with time in the glass, and this is a beautiful, classic Chardonnay from this team that will evolve gracefully for a good 20 years or more. 100% Chardonnay.
While Ridge Vineyards is historically best known for its sweeping success at the Judgement of Paris in 1976, a peek into its past and present reveals a renown hard-earned, the realization of an American dream. Established by four young Stanford engineers in 1959 and brought to the pinnacle of its excellence by winemaker Paul Draper, Ridge Vineyards has for over 50 years consistently produced what is hands-down one of the greatest Cabernet Sauvignons in California: their world-famous flagship Monte Bello. They have also arguably done more than any other winery in the area to elevate the status of Zinfandel from an inexpensive table wine to a beautifully balanced, age-worthy and complex collector’s cuvee. Through sustainable and organic practices out in the vineyard coupled with their signature “pre-industrial” approach to winemaking, Ridge Vineyards produces a portfolio of beautiful wines, single-vineyard expressions of California’s remarkable terroir.
