1 Bottle of each:
Simpsons Gravel Castle Chardonnay (England) £16.50: A great example of unoaked, cool-climate Chardonnay from the Chalk Downs of Kent. Fresh citrus and tropical fruit laced with a mineral back-bone. If you're thinking good quality Chablis you won't be far off.
Little Cricket Gruner Veltliner (Hungary) £8.75: A super drinkable Gruner from Hungary. Fresh and vivacious with lovely apple and pear with a little brush of white pepper to add interest.
Spice Route Swartland Chenin Blanc (South Africa) £14.95: Fresh meets rich...made mostly with ripe grapes fermented in stainless steel, but blended with a small portion of botrytised, barrel fermented fruit. Peach, tropical fruits and minerality with a touch of richness and honey. Gorgeous.
Scotto Old Vine Zinfandel (USA) £12.00: Rich, multi-layered flavours of dark cherry, plum, cassis and spice precede a finish marked by a subtle touch of vanilla and soft tannins. Super-drinkable Cali Zin.
Undurraga Sibaris Pinot Noir (Chile) £13.00: An enormously drinkable Pinot with cherry, strawberries and fine herbs from some time in oak. Distinctively Chilean with the telltale pomegranite and cranberry on the more-ish finish.
Vallone Appasimento Special Selection Salento (Italy) £15.00: Rich and inviting with lots of of ripe and dried fruits such as plums and raisins, dark chocolate and black pepper spice. Full bodied and velvety with the sweet dark fruit balanced with some welcome tannins. Very easy drinking.
