Flowers and wine come together at Protea Heights farm in Stellenbosch’s Devon Valley, where Botanica owner and winemaker Ginny Povall, a former New York corporate consultant, has 10 hectares of blooms and 5 of vineyards. Her Bordeaux red varieties are farmed organically (and certified as such from 2019), the celebrated chenin comes from a dryland vineyard high in the mountains near Clanwilliam. Ginny celebrates all things floral in her wine labels, in particular her flagships, which are named after (and feature the work of) Mary Delany, an artist who crafted breathtaking botanical collages out of thousands of pieces of cut paper in the late 1700s.
