A vibrant example of Chile's signature varietal: unique freshness with subtle spice and fresh berry fruit with a racy finish. Fine tannins and exceptional focus are the striking characteristics of this wine. Exceptional.
This special Carmenere is both intense and surprising. Its aromatic palette is very different from the one normally exhibited by this variety. It all comes from the special terroir of the Patreo Vineyard with its rocky slopes and schist soils. Barrel fermented and then aged for a further 18 months in 2nd and 3rd use oak barrels.
Deriving its name from the Spanish word calidad (quality) and tierra (land), Caliterra was established in 1996 as a joint venture between the families of Robert Mondavi and Vina Errazuriz. In January 2004 Vina Errazuriz became the sole owners of Caliterra, at the heart of which is the impressive 1000ha Caliterra Estate. The wine making philosophy of Caliterra is to produce environmentally friendly, quality wines in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. The focus is around the Caliterra estate in Colchagua where 288ha are currently under vine. Crucially a large proportion of this estate, and all new plantings, are on prime hillside sites resulting in high quality fruit and complex wines.
