Casa Rojo Machoman Monastrell

3 in stock

Granted, the label will divide the room. But a delicious wine balancing dark cherry, blackberries, redcurrant and balsamic notes with a surprisingly fresh, mineral finish. Super fruit intensity thanks to ageing in used oak. Effortlessly drinkable.

100% Monastrell (aka Mourvedre). Matured for 5 months in used French oak.

Between the mountains of El Carche and La Pila, in the Murcian highlands, is the unique Paraje de La Raja, about 50 miles inland from Alicante. This is the heart of the still relatively unknown wine region of Jumilla which has quietly and secretly developed into a real insider tip in Spain. Producers like Casa Rojo bring ingenious drops to the bottle and thus contribute to the upswing of the region. The grapes for the Macho Man Monastrell come from 13 different vineyards in La Raja, from vines that are between 20 and 70 years old. The soils here are very calcareous and the climate is extremely dry. But the extreme daytime heat is balanced by the cool nights in the high altitude mountains. Yields are accordingly extremely low, but of exceptionally high quality.
