Gorgeous ripe fruit character, with loads of blueberries, blackberries and flowers. Full body, with velvety tannins and a fruity, fresh, grapefruit aftertaste. Super elegance in this wine.
52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot.
Chateau Cantemerle is also one of the oldest properties in the Bordeaux wine region. Historical documents listing the Lords of Cantemerle of La Sauve Majeur Abbey, can be dated all the way back to the 12th century. Famously, the estate was excluded from the original 1855 Classification, due entirely to the fact that the wine was sold privately, and not through the Negociant system. Stung by the injustice, Madame Villeneuve-Durfort, proprietor of Chateau Cantemerle, produced decades of invoices to prove that her wine had a long history of selling for prices at least as high as some of those included in the classification, and happily the Chateau was included in the final classification
