Rich and decadent with lavish red cherries, sloes and truffle aromas - all very seductive. This has body and muscle, yet there is superb definition and freshness on the finish. Simply one of the best Hosannas ever made. (Neal Martin, March 2019, 97pts)
Merlot 80%, Cabernet Franc 20%
As an estate, Chateau Hosanna is relatively new, only having been established in 1999. However, it was created with old vine vineyards planted on clay and gravel soils at the top of the Pomerol plateau, not that much different than its neighbors Petrus, Chateau Lafleur, Vieux Chateau Certan and Chateau Certan de May. The oldest parcels were planted in 1956, 1957 and 1978. With such distinguished raw materials at its disposal, it was unsurprising that it burst on the scene with spectacular releases in 2000 and 2001.
The estate is only 4.45ha, planted 70% to Merlot and 30% to Cabernet Franc. As witnessed by their refusal to release a 2013 vintage, this is a quality focussed estate. Annual output averages only about 1,500 cases.
The wines of Hosanna are rich, complex, full bodied and concentrated. They display the elegance and charm Pomerol is known for. In 2009, Hosanna produced some of the most compelling Bordeaux wines of the vintage.
