This gem comes from Slovenia. 100% Furmint and is made in the traditional method with 3 years (!) on the lees before disgorgement. Very dry, with pear drop and green apple on a layer of brioche. Refreshing!
In champagne-speak, this would be "Blanc de Blanc", and with that amount of time on the lees before disgorgement, it competes very well with star names from Champagne. At a fraction of the price. Very well done!
Lying as it does on either side of the 46th parallel of latitude in the northern hemisphere, Slovenia is ideally placed to ripen a range of excellent grape varieties and the culture of the grapevine in this corner of Europe wedged between Croatia and Italy has a very long history. In Jarenina, wines have been produced since 1139 by the Benedictine monastic community.
Building on this legacy, the vineyards of the Dveri-Pax (Door of Peace) Estate in the regions of Maribor and Jeruzalem extend to over 70 hectares of spectacular and steep slopes, and produce vibrant and precise wines.
