Intensely spicy and ripe on the nose, the wine has complex layers of dark fruits, spice and chocolate on the palate. 2 years of oak ageing results in a rich and robust wine which retains it's balance. Super.
The vineyards are situated in the areas of Colonnella, Notaresco and Roseto on the Adriatic coast of the Abruzzo region. Facing east and south east, vines are planted on both limestone and clay-based, medium-textured soils. Training is on both pergola and Guyot system. Grapes were hand harvested. After a meticulous selection of the grapes at the winery, fruit was destemmed and crushed before it underwent a cold maceration for 4-6 days. Fermentation on the skins then followed at 25-28°C for approximately 25 days in cement vats. Malolactic fermentation took place and the wine was left to age in the vats for four months. It was then racked into barriques where it aged for 12 months before blending. The final blend was then aged in 3,000 litre barrels for a further six months.
