Outrageously good rosé, from Nebbiolo and a little Vespolina, crafted in the foothills of the Alps. Dry, flavourful, energetic, vinous and decadently succulent.
90% Nebbiolo, 10% Vespolina. 8 Hours maceration pre-fermentation on the skins to extract colour and aromas.
Eric Guido, vinous.com, 93pts: Good luck pulling away from the 2021 Rosa del Rosa, with its sweetly scented bouquet that mixes notes of dusty rose and ripe strawberries with enriching hints of butter cream and vanilla bean. This sets off all of the pleasure indicators with soft textures complemented by sweet red fruits, then contrasted by sour citrus and, finally, a bump of juicy acidity that keeps the energy high. There's plenty of length to keep the palate reeling with mouthwatering pleasure, as the Rosa del Rosa, a varietal Nebbiolo Rosato, tapers off wickedly fresh and long. This is, yet again, one of the top Italian Rosés of the vintage.
The splendid 10 hectare hillside estate of Proprieta Sperino is situated in the small town of Lessona, near Biella in northern Piemonte. It passed into the De Marchi family (of top Chianti Classico estate, Isole e Olena) through their relative, Felice Sperino, a passionate viticulturist and professor in Turin. Since the 1970s, Paolo De Marchi dreamt of revitalising the Sperino estate, a dream that has come to fruition with the help of his elder son, Luca, who now runs the estate and makes the wines with Paolo’s guidance.
