Beautifully balanced sweetness with intense plum, cherries, floral notes, spice and chocolate. Full bodied and velvety, but without the heavy alcohol of a fortified red wine such as port.
Recioto is the father of Amarone and one of the oldest wines in the world. Numerous historical testimonies state that in Valpolicella a sweet wine was produced from dried grapes from before the Romans colonized the region starting in the first century BC. Amarone, in fact, according to legends, was born by mistake in quite recent times when a vessel fermenting grapes intended for Recioto was mistakenly left to ferment the wine dry.
Tommasi was founded in 1902 and has grown to be the largest family-owned vineyard estate in Valpolicella Classico. Tommasi is located in Pedemonte in the heart of the historic ‘Classico’ region, from which the best quality wines are produced. From grandfather Giacomo’s small vineyard holding, the Tommasi estate has grown over the years and today comprises 195 hectares of vineyard including 105 hectares in the Valpolicella Classica and 15 hectares in the Lugana DOC. The estate is owned and managed by the fourth generation of the Tommasi family.
